Join Ken Martin, the Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and Yasmin Radjy, the Executive Director of Swing Left, for a Zoom meeting hosted by grassroots leader Steve Schear to talk about how you can help Democrats win the midterms. Winning the House and possibly the Senate is the most powerful and realistic way to limit the power of Trump and MAGA. Lorenza Ramirez, the DNC’s new Organizing Director, and Zack Malitz, Swing Left’s Managing Director, will also speak at the meeting about innovative new programs. Can anyone explain to me why some vaccines most eliminate the chance you'll get the disease (measles, rubella, pertussis) while other vaccines don't do that at all, but instead mostly work to lessen severity (covid, flu)?

The latest update from the Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative is out with US estimates:

▪️ 1 of every 35 people is today infectious with #COVID19

▪️ More COVID is transmitting today than in 91% of the pandemic to date

▪️ We are rapidly approaching the 2nd-worst surge of the pandemic

▪️ This surge may peak around January 10, at which point (if we were still counting) we'd see 2,000,000 new cases per day

▪️ A room with 25 people has a 50% chance of having someone infectious

We've been talking about the growth of the JN.1 #COVID19 variant for a month now. The CDC is finally breaking it out in its Nowcast: Growth from 4% of US tests to 21% in 18 days. The last estimate is as of 11/29, so it's probably predominant or nearly so today. That suggests we'll see a great deal of growth of COVID infections in the coming three weeks through the holidays.
