@karmac @AE4WX In Canada we have this guide. To pass the Basic in Canada, you have to correctly answer 70% of a 100 question test from a pool of 900 potential questions. (Basic with Honours is an 80% pass and then you can transmit on HF among other things) It sounds hard but I have zero electronic background and still got B with H after writing the test once. There are many clubs offering classes which are fun and help as well. Find your local amateur radio club and ask about that. #hamradio #amateurradio
Just watched a movie made in Spring 2022. “The Outfit” on Amazon Prime. Wow! The way movies used to be made. So well done, excellent acting. Suspense crime … highly recommend

Welcome to the new folks joining Mastodon. Here’s a few things to make sure you do first on Mastodon:

-Profile picture, bio, and introduction posts are awesome, even if you’re not sure who/what to tag in them yet.

-Consider pinning an introduction post that tells us what you do and what you might be posting or sharing. This helps others know if they should follow you back.

-Use the search bar to search for hash tags of things you are interested in, for example #History. This helps find some folks to start following.

-Once you start following people and finding some interesting (for you) content, boost those posts. This also helps others know what you are interested in sharing or doing on Mastodon.

-Consider checking out https://a.gup.pe/ and seeing what groups interest you. These work as listservs, in a way—when you tag the @group you follow, it shares it with everyone in that group (like reply all).

-Keep at it! It will feel confusing for a few days, but there are numerous welcoming folks sharing tips on the feed all the time. Give it a little time and you will be a pro in no time.

@stux I'm seeing a lot of smart people--scientists, historians, academics--who are moderate or apolitical (in their tweets, anyway) sharing their new Mastodon accounts and mostly saying they'll be on both platforms for the foreseeable future. Not the hot-headed types I've seen in previous #TwitterMigrations. (Note: Some of them were pretty cool, too, ire notwithstanding.)

Mastodon is going to be a lot more interesting if these folks stick around!

Oh heck where am I? Lol Twitter refugee here. How do I change my profile pic?
