I first used BSD 4.3 at UC Berkeley in 1986, and have been dabbling at various levels ever since.

Mostly OpenBSD now, but I have (old!) Thinkpads running both FreeBSD and NetBSD.

The UNIX shell is still one of the best IDEs ever created.

grep/find/sed/awk/make/ssh/git/nvi often compose better than many modern “integrated” environments.

Small programs connected together still scale surprisingly well.

Making sure you're not a bot!

@swan_tower Bravely done, indeed. What can you do for yourself as a treat/reward?
@kiplet I am unreasonably pleased to find another Shadow Unit fan in the wild.

Happy pride month.

Corporations that lobby to block minimum wage, host ICE, union bust, and participate in the prison pipeline, do not get to dip their logo in a rainbow and get your queer dollars.

@mayintoronto And to you, good May. Also, happy belated -- good to read you enjoyed yourself yesterday.
There is no ethical use of Generative AI. Some are forced to use it for work, and I would never tell someone to risk their housing or food security to avoid it. Beyond that I find it simply inexcusable.
@hanalei gentle fistbump of solidarity
"a team that knows how to work well together" is a hell of a resource, and the way in which corps treat workers as fungible and interchangeable completely ignores the massive synergistic benefits -of- such a close-knit team being allowed to remain together.
@erin Anything we can do to help?
@Genderqueerwolf Good luck, and may everything survive ok. Frost in mid-May in Portland is outside my experience; is it unusual?
