@kasimir WTI / brent it is a future contract market. you get a paper which says that you can get oil in a month for this price, sell it, buy it, resell it a million times over. it only has something to do with actual bbls of oil when the contract is due. hence the market can have weird dynamics untethered from reality.
most people probably think i am just a luddite who just refuses to keep up with tech. quiet the opposite. i am trying to be ahead of the tech.

this is btw #kaneparsons whole critique on basically everything. on us losing ourselves in these spaces which have no original personality anymore , no comprehensible structure, the bigger they become, the less they resemble solid reality and worst off all: in a way we are all completely alone in it and they can become a mirror of the worst version of ourselves. listen to his interviews, he's pretty on point, not just on #AI.

⬆️ this is not to judge or bitch about the #fediverse, it is just an observation about society.

we #genZ always complain a lot, but frankly we got insanely lucking to witness the best days of the #internet. the handcraft, global village internet, as opposed to the industrialized internet we have today. and it is not coming back any time soon.

and you know what frightens me even more about this: when you got banned for 5 days for being whatever in a chat or on a forum, it was mostly a rather funny situation and everyone had a good laugh about it afterwards and it wasn't the #fomo-apocalypse for people which it is today and that is the ontology of the entire prediciament.

like: if you are a #mod working on this voluntarily and putting your time and effort into it - why would you even bother to debate guidelines and recites with an obvious troll / out of control user as if they had a legal right to be on your website. free speech isn't free. you have to be a not-asshole for it to even make sense in the first place.
like: this entire "community guideline" thing is just a copy of the ToS stuff, which was made for managing very large systems with millions of users. it takes the personal interaction out of it and makes it parasocial. the centralization already happened bc everyone and their mom is using this sort of framework.
if i ran a server there would be just one rule: don't be an asshole. and if it somehow isn't clear to people what that means maybe you don't want them?
