More than 250 short (1x2 and 2x1) US #callsigns become available today. These all would have normally expired since October 1st 2025, but were delayed due to the government #FCC shutdown. Good luck with your vanity callsign applications!

FILE YOUR VANITY APPLICATIONS NOW!

As of 7pm eastern, I was able to submit a vanity application with receipt date of November 17 (today). That means you will beat out even the people that filed on October 1 before ULS shut down. Their applications have been post-dated to a receipt date of November 18 (tomorrow).

That means the 113 short callsigns that are available in the lower 48 states are all up for grabs.

So it is now a certainty that these two callsigns will not be assigned in the foreseeable future.

See the full FOIA response here: https://vanities.k2cr.com/faq.html#banned

In March of 2024, I filed a #FOIA with the #FCC, trying to find the reason why the callsigns N6ER and N1GI were not being assigned. They seemed to be banned and the FCC helpdesk would merely say that these callsigns were "unavailable to any applicant."

A week ago I received a heavily redacted FOIA response including email records which indicate that these callsigns are not available due to similarity to obscenity. The full list of callsigns banned in this manner is currently still unknown.

The #FCC is affected by the government #shutdown. Although ULS accepted vanity applications this morning, it is now redirecting to a shutdown notice page.

As such, I cannot verify that the information on https://vanities.k2cr.com/ is still correct. I've added a notice at the top of every page stating so.

Good luck to all federal employees during this time.

For anyone who may not be aware. I volunteer with the Ham Radio Village (https://hamvillage.org/ @HamRadioVillage )

Our mission is to deliver high-quality and innovate amateur radio related educational content, hands-on experiences, and license testing sessions online and in-person through events. We believe that the more people know about amateur radio, the more safe, secure, functional, and innovative our wireless products, services, and experiments will be.

Our team of dedicated volunteers is responsible for generating all new research, giving talks and demonstrations at events, building and testing experiments, as well as offering support to the general ham radio community.

One of the bigger events we support is #defcon . Each year we bring in people to teach ham radio concepts and administer free licensing exams. We share the love of #hamradio with the #hacker and #STEM communities.

Of course, this takes money. If you're willing and capable, please head to our website and donate. We're a 501(c)3 non profit. All of our funding comes from grants and donations.

Please, help us help the community.
