Let’s use for once use the proper word instead of a euphemism like “return hubs”. The word is “concentration camps”

The rise of Mastodon has made me so much more aware of government services requiring us to use private companies’ systems to communicate with them and access services.

Sitting on a Dutch train just now I was shown on a screen “feeling unsafe in the train? Contact us via WhatsApp”.

What if I don’t use WhatsApp? (I do, but I wish I didn’t have to) I’m forced to share my data with Meta to use it.

Public systems should not require use of private services.

Once again, Apple does censorship favors for dictator -- and this time, doesn't even need prompting from the dictator.

Apple quietly deletes nearly a hundred VPNs that allowed Russians to get around censorship

The multinational has removed dozens of apps, even though the Kremlin’s censorship body did not order the move. These services, half-permitted by the government, enable people in Russia to access social networks and independent media

The only solution is to radically change the world, to stop spreading hate, to change ourselves first, and hope that some example will be set.
2. Stop patronising and victimising far right voters. I’m sick of reading so many time the same analysis about “there are not 10, 20, 30, etc % fascist int his country, they are protesting because they have beein left behind”. Of course they are fascists, and a danger to democracy. Bringing back a proper welfare state (which is the fair and morally right thing to do, not as a tactic) would calm them, but the reality is still there, and will be lurking there.

How to fight the hard right?

1. Center right have to realize that the strategy of adopting far right tactics doesn’t work. The only thing they achieve is to lift the taboo of voting the far right and showing that those parties are “normal”

we are all closer to being climate refugees than billionaires

I have questions:
WHO will eat the sugarcane? Cars? People? Which people?

How will you save small midwestern towns without mass immigration?

What really happens when a "flood of migrants" gets "dumped" on a small heartland town.
