The Verge is doubling down and it's a good one to read and share 👌
https://www.theverge.com/report/901818/hbo-harry-potter-jk-rowling-transphobia

Especially to your cis folks who are still somehow arguing that it's possible to watch something that’s directly funding a worldwide fascist crusade against trans people without being a part of the problem.

This is a testament to the GNOME Foundation's ramp up in maturity, and that GNOME folks have their heart in the right place.

1. Use donations to fund people working on GNOME and dependencies.
2. Focus on sustainability and not bells and whistles.

This is entirely fueled by our donations. If you want a direct pipeline between your money and GNOME development, this is it.

Big news! Today we’re launching the GNOME Fellowship: funded positions for contributors to work on the GNOME project’s long-term sustainability. 🎉

We are starting with one 12-month fellowship; applications are open through April 20.

Na hübsch, da ist sie, die Einladung für ein Webinar für eine „Transparente KI für vertrauensvolle Forschung“ von Elsevier/RELX. 🙄 No thank you, I think I’d rather not.

It's clear that AI assisted coding is dividing developers (welcome to the culture wars!). I've seen a few blog posts now that talk about how some people just "love the craft", "delight in making something just right, like knitting", etc, as opposed to people who just "want to make it work". As if that explains the divide.

How about this, some people resent the notion of being a babysitter to a stochastic token machine, hastening their own cognitive decline. Some people resent paying rent to a handful of US companies, all coming directly out of the TESCREAL human extinction cult, to be able to write software. Some people resent the "worse is better" steady decline of software quality over the past two decades, now supercharged. Some people resent that the hegemonic computing ecosystem is entirely shaped by the logic of venture capital. Some people hate that the digital commons is walled off and sold back to us. Oh and I guess some people also don't like the thought of making coding several orders of magnitude more energy intensive during a climate emergency.

But sure, no, it's really because we mourn the loss of our hobby.

Why developers using AI are working longer hours

Studies find AI helps developers release more software—while logging longer hours and fixing problems after the code goes live

We're putting together some grant applications, and are wondering what skills and availability exist in our wider community 🧑‍🏭✨

We're particularly looking for people who can do feature work and technical management around things like GNOME, Flatpak, systemd, Freedesktop, Pipewire, ModemManager, etc.

Contact us if you think you'd be a good fit, either DM or email [email protected]
