Curious about everything under the sun, behind the sun, and inside the sun. Rock turner until I’m dead. I also software quite a bit. C# / F# / Flutter / Rust and many others. I like taking things apart and trying to put them back together. I grow things, I bake things, photograph things, and pet all the animals.

@futurebird so this hummer photo has been doing the rounds on bsky and I've been holding my post button thinking, "Surely a few people will already send this. She's always inundated with multiple copies of the same things." but as far as I can see, it hasn't happened yet? Anyway, without further ado: https://bsky.app/profile/phylogenomics.bsky.social/post/3mhj2jp7xpc27

Link might not work if you don't have a bsky account so I uploaded the image.

I just want to note how plump that lil ant's gaster is, and I have to wonder if she's getting a little sippa from the beak as the hummingbird feeds.

Dear everybody who is using Firefox: update to 148 and toggle the AI kill switch ASAP. It takes 5 clicks. Here's a visual guide.

You can still opt-in to individual options. I won't, but there are two accessibility options you might want to opt back into. That's depicted in the 4th image.

I added alt text for the visual guide, but I'm not sure how useful or well-written it is. Feedback welcome.

Walking the dog in 13" of snow is quite an experience!
We ended up with 13" of snow around the yard with some drift piles around 24"
Over 15" of snow so far today and another 15" expected through the night. I have shoveled the driveway more today than I have shoveled in total my entire life

Also republicans: don't take away my guns

Turns out that Microsoft's BitLocker security for the data stored on your hard drive is just a placebo.

Might as well give your password to everyone:

Microsoft gave FBI a set of BitLocker encryption keys to unlock suspects' laptops: Reports | TechCrunch

The FBI served Microsoft a warrant requesting encryption recovery keys to decrypt the hard drives of people involved in an alleged fraud case in Guam.

I still think about this eruption and how massive it was. The fact that the shock wave circled the globe over and over again and we were able to detect that is mind boggling
Shoveled the driveway three times today. And then celebrated by going snow shoeing for the first time ever
I found my old blog on blogger which I didn't realize was even still around and amazingly I was able to log in. I recall that I unpublished all my posts back in 2017, but my oldest post is from 2003 and I referred to the site as a Web Log as I remember the term was originally called
