Been thinking about how people in Sinclair markets can maybe watch ABC live without supporting Sinclair...

1. Sign up for Sling Select for 29.99/mo

2. Use your new Sling account to enable Live TV on abc.com

3. Cancel your cable. Tell them it's because they carry Sinclair affiliates

This should give you live access to ABC7 (LA) and some other local ABC markets, as well as streaming access to FX and National Geographic.

If anyone tries this from an embargoed market, let us know how it works

Happy Iowa wildflower Wednesday!

This week Diane Porter features the lovely Winged Loosestrife and explains how it got that common name. (I love Diane's magnified photos.)

Iowa wildflower Wednesday: Winged loosestrife

Diane Porter features winged loosestrife, which likes "wet feet" and has crinkled petals, as if made from super-thin tissue paper.

@GottaLaff Actually, it is surprising to me. I'm often surprised and disappointed that this is what America has become. I'm surprised and saddened that voters will vote against their own best interests as long as it promises to hurt those "other" people. I'm surprised at the hatred, the cruelty, and the incompetence. But most of all, I'm surprised that more people aren't outraged and in the streets rather than posted online about how unsurprised they are.
Johnson: Stock Trade Ban Makes Congress Job Too 'Unattractive'

Sen Ron Johnson is strongly opposed to the stock trading ban because without corruption, being in Congress is too "unattractive."

Longtime TV news director Dave Busiek:

“The video on the Fox News website runs three minutes and 38 seconds. In that time, I counted 26 jump cut edits. The “time code” from the camera indicates the interview started at 7:18 and goes to 7:42. That means the interview is at least 24 minutes long, but we only hear 3:38 of it"

If these numbers are hard to process, think of it this way.

Your lemonade stand has pulled in $8 dollars in cash. To get the $8 dollars, though, you spent $443 making the lemonade.

That’s right. You spent $443 to collect $8. Total loss: $435.

Is this a promising business? No. It’s no business at all.

But you tell passersby, “Look at my thriving lemonade stand!” And they decide your business is actually worth $47,000. https://mastodon.social/@jeffjarvis/114959489116169895
