Have you seen a cockroach nervous system?
I dissected this out of one that was about to be feed.

#WaspIDCourse2023, day 2 (again - it was very inspiring!).
As I attend this run of the WaspID Course, I'm tempted to share a different wasp every day. A 🧵
(Without specification, assume all are shot in the Netherlands)
Here's no. 3 and 4 - after handling fly larvae to get a shot of this Aphaereta wasp parasitizing my fingers must have smelled quite appetizing to this confused wasp lady.

Here's no. 2 - one of my first truly awesome finds in macrophotography, back in 2012. If it wasn't for this photo I wouldn't have contacted Hans Smid, who, a year later, ended up being the co-promotor of my PhD!

So without further ado, here's no. 1: a cool pompilid, dragging along a paralyzed spider to a burrow somewhere.
This stack had some pretty overexposed highlights! Quick re-edit of the raws I had saved made for a much more enjoyable image 🙂

Stacking *all the things*!
Nahw, just doing some panoramic stacking of *3* individual insects. Even at low mag (roughly 2.5x) I've shot about 90Gb, emptied 2 camera batteries and two sets of flash batteries
Using Mjkzz QOOL rail, trusty Canon EOS70D body, Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x lens, Yongnuo YN24EX flash, and various accessories.
Just a quick heads up that I've recently started to convert a couple of my shots to vectorized silhouettes. These are uploaded to and freely usable (CC BY 4.0) through @phylopic.
This started as a wish to flesh out the meager ant/insect content of PhyloPic, but I might make it a larger "Open" project to accompany my actual (more restricted) photographic jobs/assignments.
