Professional nerd. Writes code of questionable quality. Plays video games, but not well. Metalhead, 3d printing and home automation enthusiast (which means the house is in a perpetual beta state!).

Here to see what all the fuss is about!

I finally got around to ordering some ESP8266 boards, in the hope of making some RGB lamps for the kids in my family.
But first, practice to prove I can actually solder - and what better way to practice than with @martinwoodward 's Octolamp - https://github.com/martinwoodward/octolamp

Printed in Bambu Lab Basic Petg, I'm very happy with it and somewhat more confident about the kids' presents!

Renewed my #iracing subscription for the first time in over 3 years after watching a GR86 race the other day. Looks like a fun car!

Watch out, racers, there's a new turn 1 dive-bomber coming to a rookie track near you!

@slackerlabs Ah, thanks for the tip. That actually looks like a better fit, particularly for automations with more triggers! 🤔

After a previous Toot about my wall-mounted tablet, I was reminded having a lithium battery on charge 100% of the time isn't very smart. Enter #HomeAssistant automations and a TP-Link Kasa plug 😁

HA's automations have become so much better since IF/THEN/ELSE statements were added last year, allowing for multiple conditions and resulting actions in a single automation. I still have a few old ones to consolidate using this pattern, but my list is shrinking!

I made this simple automation last week: If the battery drops to 20%, start charging. If it rises to above 80%, stop charging. Hopefully this will help prevent exploding batteries in my wall, now!

@makergeek I have power running in from a power outlet on the other side of the wall. If this were periodically recharged, it would probably end up being off with a flat battery more often than not, with my memory! 😆
@unw1red @[email protected] @homeassistant Exactly this. We had a Google Home Hub for a while, but the voice control wasn’t popular in our household. My partner doesn’t always carry her phone around the house either, so this fills the void enough to prevent smart lights being turned off at the power source 😉
@[email protected] @homeassistant @homeassistant @VersionBen6999 Beautiful layout and theme! I regret going such low resolution for mine after seeing that!
@JoeJulian @geordie @thirstyhaegar hmm, thanks for the heads-up. I’ll keep an eye on it. I have a few Aqara motion sensors yet to be installed, so very possible to overcome
@spidertheswede Lenovo Tab M8. It's not fast, the UI lags a little, but it was cheap and works fine for basic controls!
@thirstyhaegar @JoeJulian @geordie Fully Kiosk Browser handles the sleep and wake based on camera-detected motion, but the automation to help preserve battery longevity may be on the cards 🤔
