"Through this Fund, grants will be made to restaurant industry employees who have demonstrated being financially impacted by COVID-19, whether through a decrease in wages or loss of employment. These grants will be made on a first-come first-served basis, subject to availability of funds. 100% of the Fund’s proceeds will go to providing grants to restaurant workers. This Fund is operated by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, whose mission is to attract, empower and advance today’s and tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice workers."

@raye That’s a bummer. If you haven’t tried yet, you could possibly search for a group’s email and shoot them an explanation about your situation. Most groups I’ve been apart of (in the past) or have reached out to tend to communicate via email, Signal, or Slack anyway. But, yeah, I don’t know if Seattle groups operate differently.

Turmeric is very tasty but it can and will stain everything it touches a bright fluorescent yellow colour. But the molecule which causes that colour is broken down by ultraviolet. So if you don’t want your chopping board or wooden spoon to stay vibrantly yellow, leave it in the sunlight for a couple of hours and all the yellow will be gone.

Just make sure it’s not sunlight behind a window. That probably won’t work, because glass blocks most ultraviolet light.

Granted, it’s not comprehensive; the autonomous group I donated to is not listed on it, as well as a ton of other LA and Chicago groups I know.

After lots of moves the past few years—2x b/w 2010-13, Dec. 2013, Jul. 2015, Jul. 2017, Aug. 2018, and Oct. 2019—I found that bringing nearly everything from the last kitchen prevented less food waste. And if the move was not too far (2015 and 2018 were the only moves across “state lines”), I saved money on buying takeout the first day or so.

But as a daughter of a refugee and immigrant, I’m also the type of person that always has a few types of grains, rice, beans, and nuts at any given time.

I haven't taken a look at everything, but I've enjoyed Peter Reinhart, Paula Wolfert, Elizabeth Andoh, and Rose Levy Beranbaum's recipes in the past, and I highly recommend the book Seductions of Rice, if you want different ways to cook a staple. Feel free to recommend others!
