The chaotic urge to tell Linux evangelists to "Just install Windows" when they post even the smallest gripe about Linux...
@sidereal @cstross @jwz
That is the actual goal of a faction of the Republicans- LARPing the book of Revelations, thus specifically provoking war in the Middle East, plague, famine, etc.
As opposed to another faction which just wants to provoke a societal collapse so that they can emerge as the tech lords of a neo-feudal system where the reduced population will accept its servile role beneath them.
Hi Fediverse, I am looking for a job for someone fleeing from the USA to germany.
The person is versed in front- and backend developement, focused on vanilla js and angular, but willing to do anything in that area. Learning German atm, understanding German pretty good already.
Area Karlsruhe would be preferred.
Someone got anything?

Note to self: When starting doing something large and complicated in Visual Studio, regularly build and run in both Debug and Release configurations from the start, even while you are still very much debugging the stuff, so that you notice if the latter mysteriously doesn't work early enough.

Ever tried to build a #database for "names" for humans? And ran into exception over exception? Building a database for #Aviation data is equally complicated! There are more exceptions than rules.

Falsehoods Programmers Believe About Aviation

There are a lot of assumptions one could make when designing data types and schemas for aviation data that turn out to be inaccurate. In the spirit of Patrick McKenzie’s classic piece on names, here are some false assumptions one might make about aviation.

lots of people think the number 1 problem for indies is game quality, when actually it's visibility by multiple orders of magnitude. how can i prove this? because even now, almost a year out from Kitsune Tails' launch, we still haven't reached all the lesbian fox girls who'd buy the game if they knew of it

how do i know this? because during each sale promotion i get at minimum one reply, often more, from these lesbian fox girls who only just then discovered the game through one of my posts

friends, I am in a six hour call that’s supposed to be a high level overview of a certain embedded software runtime. The current slide contains a discussion of the garbage collection subsystem and heap management, and also a diagram of how an individual cell of static ram works with the electrons shuffling around between the 0 and 1 states. There are several hundred words in a tiny font talking about voltage and whatnot.

engineers please learn to value soft skills like “expressing your expertise clearly and concisely” a little more 😭 this is like trying to share your grandma’s cake recipe through the medium of a textbook on organic chemistry

@Pikestreet @Branwen74 Live your life in such a way that the newspaper doesn't refuse to print the obituary your children write for you.

But that seems like a really, really low bar to clear, to me.

There should be more obituaries like this, not less. No wonder they won't call out the scumbags actually walking around. #StarTribune #Strib

A *single* Jira (cloud/SaaS) ticket page inc. assets is 53.3MB.
There's not even any images or attachments and only 4 very short comments.

@tdp_org when the Jira bug ticket is larger than the codebase it references 🫢
@tdp_org don't open a notion page then 🙈
@tdp_org Also nothing in Jira works because it is all "smart loaded" via bad javascript code instead of via the standard browser mechanisms. Want to use their own feature to link to a heading? Doesnt work. Want to quickly switch between history entries? Breaks the entire site.
@atjn Oh joy. It just gets better 🤦🏻‍♂️
@tdp_org I knew it was pretty fat, but geez. Just copied a link to one of our tickets and opened in a new tab with the dev tools open:
@Lacey It's almost impressive. Quite what all that content is I don't know...it must cost them a fortune in egress from AWS
@tdp_org Looks like the biggest single transfer is from a tool they use to track bugs as well. I really do hate the modern web
@tdp_org If I don't restart Firefox about once a week, the few long-running Jira tickets I'm working on that I leave open slowly cause the whole browser to grind to a halt
