@JimSwift I'm a LL rookie this season, but really enjoying it so far.
@wolmanj @AnnemarieBridy I'm sure you both know that this is also a common occurrence in cartography, where "trap streets" appear in many maps. As an Ohioan, this is one of my favorite examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatosu_and_Goblu

This article is a good starting point for the East Palestine derailment. (Gift link, anyone can read.)

The info circulating on social media has been suboptimal, to say the least. Grab a cup of coffee and let's go over everything from vinyl chloride to electronic brake regulations.

So I'm going to put this under the microscope right now.

To be sure, I'm not going to say it is "bad" or that there shouldn't be a barrier to entry.

Just pointing out ways the sign-up process can be easier. 🧵

@kairyssdal What's the on-the-ground effect for people like me? My HELOC rate goes up? What else?
@captainslim thanks! And yikes 😬
@captainslim can you translate that for us normies? I can make out "moon dimly visible" at the end, but that's all.
@JimSwift how many gas pumps are at those 112 stations?

@HilliTech I don't think the problem (or even the narrative, from what I've seen ) about instances or servers is that "it's difficult."

The problem is how search works across the fediverse. Pick the wrong server and you get almost no search results. That's a very real and very major barrier to developing a community, because it effectively means you need to identify and pick your community *before signing up*. How are people supposed to manage that? That's what's keeping people from starting.

@vwbusguy thank you!
