I'm a couple of months into switching to a #Brother color LaserJet #printer and I'm still overall happy with it. I don't remember the last time I was happy with a printer. The out of box #Linux / #Android support for it has been perfect. The only thing I would change is that I do miss having an ADF, which I didn't realize this one didn't have until I had already set it up. In hindsight, I would have paid more for one that includes that.
@vwbusguy Hi. I'm unexpectedly in the market for a home printer (HP inkjet capped out). Would love to hear more about the state of technology and what works. Don't use it a ton, but am dying for something that just...works, for a change. Any insight you can offer??
@jeffreynye If you don't use it often and want something that just works, I definitely recommend getting a Laser printer. Infrequent use is hard on ink jets and frequent use of them is harder on the wallet. A laser printer is not investment up front but it pays for itself quickly in ink and maintenance.
@vwbusguy thanks! Any guidance on a model? You have a Brother? We want something that will print double-sided, with color, from phones and laptops. Scanner nice but maybe not make or break. (Sorry, I know I shouldn't saddle you with my ignorance. Just feels impossible to find any actually reliable info anywhere.)

@jeffreynye This is the one I have and I'm happy with it so far

@jeffreynye With the caveat that I am not an expert on all the different printers available. I will say that the one and only thing I wish was different about mine if I wish I had paid a bit more and gotten a model with an ADF feed scanner. Otherwise, this one checks all of my boxes. The print quality is excellent and it all works nicely out of box with Fedora.
