@roryreckons thanks, that's a really smart idea! Yeah, I don't have a great sense for my anxious physical responses either, that sounds like a good way to become more aware
@roryreckons Smart watch helps by seeing your heart rate? Or how?
@TonyaCanning @dramypsyd I'm not sure I'd be able to get back to sleep ever but more power to those who can! There's also Jornay PM that would presumably (I haven't tried it) do this: take at bedtime, works when you wake up
@dznz unless I'm reading his post wrong, it looks like Alexander suggested "parasitic mimicry", which IMO is a much better term than either "toxic" or "predatory". Toxic implies a passive negative quality, and predation is usually obvious. Parasitism, on the other hand, is designed to be hard to detect or do anything about

@futurebird IMO movetodon.org essentially solved the account movement issue. It's true that you still need to authorize with Twitter and know your password, and same with your Mastodon account, but then there's just a big "Follow all" button, and individual buttons for all of the accounts you follow. No downloads, no CSV, works on mobile.

Picking the server is my least favorite part... especially because a lot of folks still parrot the "it doesn't really matter" line, which just isn't true.

@lolzac I think that's either a regular thing or an ADHD thing. The problem is how the question is asked. If you ask me what I want for Christmas, mind goes totally blank. If you ask me to text links for things I want for Christmas within $10 of $X within the next 30 minutes, I'll send 4 things at minute 29. #ADHD
@alwirtes That totals to just over $19 B...where did the other $25 B come from? Was that all Musk cash + Tesla stock?

@kevlin

Christine Lemmer-Webber (@cwebber) described ChatGPT as Mansplaining As A Service, and honestly I can’t think of a better description. A service that instantly generates vaguely plausible sounding yet totally fabricated and baseless lectures in an instant with unflagging confidence in its own correctness on any topic, without concern, regard or even awareness of the level of expertise of its audience.

@joannastern Great video! The feeling I can't shake with AI is that it's going to do to written content what spam did to email or robocalls did to a random phone call. I used to be able to trust if I'm reading a tweet or a blog post or a book, some human took the time to compose it. And maybe they're wrong or something, but a person at least cared about it, and that feels like it justifies the time I spend reading it. In 2023 and beyond, that's no longer the case unless I first trust the author.
@noturtlesoup17 I owe it all to the extended release melatonin. And hopefully the riveting conversation helps you get some sleep! Will be on the lookout for future Amandaspaces.
