It’s really extraordinary to what extent mobile phones have become everything-devices. They’re a technology that have crowded out other design.

One example: if you were working from scratch you’d never ever design a motorbike with a touch screen. It’s obviously wrong: motorcyclists usually wear gloves, and need even more than car drivers to pay attention. But because phones are an every-device that’s exactly what delivery scooters have become, with a billing and tasking and navigation app on the dashboard, pinging the rider’s attention. It’s mad.
