It’s really extraordinary to what extent mobile phones have become everything-devices. They’re a technology that have crowded out other design.

One example: if you were working from scratch you’d never ever design a motorbike with a touch screen. It’s obviously wrong: motorcyclists usually wear gloves, and need even more than car drivers to pay attention. But because phones are an every-device that’s exactly what delivery scooters have become, with a billing and tasking and navigation app on the dashboard, pinging the rider’s attention. It’s mad.

Or take photography. The phone camera as a class of devices is by some way the most successful camera in the history of the medium. Not because of quality, it’s probably a fine wide angle point and shoot camera. Or price, because phones are still quite expensive devices compared to digital cameras. It’s because the ubiquity of the phone in people’s pockets and the growth of sharing networks has simply changed what photography is _for_.
@liamvhogan the best camera there is is the one you have with you
