Shropshire's wedding folklore is truly lovely! I've written about it below, maybe it can inspire your special day!

‘When will you be married nurse?- When Mr. Right comes’ – The folklore of Shropshire Weddings.

As some of you may know, my partner recently asked me to marry him (it’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it?). Now I must confess that though...

A series of free lectures by Professor Ronald Hutton, really worth checking out. I’ve been enjoying them from my sick bed.

Summary: This is the first series of three sets of lectures devoted to the perennial ‘others’ of the European Christian tradition, those phenomena which have always been present as active forces or cultural memories in Christian Europe and which theological orthodoxy has regarded as suspect. The first of the phenomena consists of the pre-Christian religions of Europe, defined in Christian tradition as #paganism. These were suppressed as religious systems at the time of conversion to Christianity but elements of them survived as major components of literature, art and folklore.

The idea of the Wood Wide Web - that trees communicate with each other via a network of symbiotic fungi in their roots - has become increasingly popular over the last few years. But turns out it might be entirely false.

A fascinating read by some of the very people who helped spread that idea in the first place. Now this is science.

Where the ‘Wood-Wide Web’ Narrative Went Wrong

Opinion | A fascinating story about forest fungal networks has captured the public imagination in recent years. Is any of it true?

Not going to splash out for RÖKFLÖTE until I stream it enough times to be sure it won't bore me or put me off with Anderson's oldguyism lyrics. The christ stuff on the musically mid THE ZEALOT GENE was tiresome for me.
I 1st read ORLANDO by Virginia Woolf as a preteen. Read it again in my teens & 20s. This is the 1st time in midlife. My friend Chiles Samaniego talks abt feeling a book 'just gets you'. I feel that w/ORLANDO, but was child-me infected by the book, or did he recognise himself, much more fabulous, as folly-prone & given to aesthetic pretension & emotional extremes? Both? I admire THE WAVES, but love ORLANDO as one loves s'thing abt themselves a lesser soul would have the decency to be ashamed of.
But influence is a currency that corrupts. Better to cultivate such insignificance and indifference to society that it never bothers you and you never bother it.

In India, many talk about the importance of having 'influence' and claim they have it, or know people who do. If they say they do, they almost never do. The people with influence simply live their lives large and crass, and if you object, they use their influence to put you down brutally and efficiently. And the former types sit with their bums on their palms until things cool off and they can start playing their man-on-the-make games again. 1/2

"You need to get out of your comfort zone."

Absolutely not. Never. It took me ages to get into it.
