This section from @jamesbridle excellent #WaysOfBeing is one example of many insightful comparisons between the natural world and machine intelligence. Would highly recommend to anyone with an interest in artificial intelligence.

First time reading Lakoff (The All New - Don't Think of an Elephant). I think this passage is so well constructed:

Always in safe hands with Adam Rutherford.

CONTROL, is about the forces that have shaped the development of life on Earth and attempts by the powerful to regulate the interface of breeding and society. It examines the principles of genetics and evolution, exploring how our understanding of the world has changed over time and. There are some excellent descriptions of gene editing technology, embryo selection, heritability and complex polygenic traits.

Another favourite, but maybe contentious for some in the #statistics community.

Bernoulli's Fallacy by Aubrey Clayton explores the implications of frequentism, significance testing etc for underpinning decision making and scientific inference. Some great chapters on
probability theory, the history of modern statistics and its relationship with eugenics and game theory. Also a fantastic intro to Bayesian thinking.

The Dawn Of Language, by Sverker Johansson, was a particular favourite!

It examines the history and science of the evolution of language. It looks at the development of language from its earliest stages in pre-human primates, through its emergence in human societies, to its current role as the primary means of communication in the modern world.
