I HAVE MOVED. My new address is [email protected].

I'm the head of Friends of Bees, a working group in Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice, and the Environment. We educate about and advocate for our native bees and pollinators.

So I'm a few days late, but I found out that it's customary to write an #Introduction, and so here it is <3

Hi! I'm Liz, a #trans woman who has recently entered her 40's. I've been out and open since October, 2021, and at this point feel like a #queer elder.

I'm a Sr. (Software) Engineering Manager with almost 20 years of experience in software development. I also have a few years in there as a Senior Product Manager, but my passion definitely lies on the engineering side of things.

I've been involved in Olympic #fencing for almost 30 years in some capacity, and for the last several I have been an armorer at collegiate, (US) national, and international events.

I am here on Mastodon after deciding to leave anything Meta behind, and realizing that BlueSky isn't the safe haven that it purports to be. I hope all of the Threads and Twitter users that ended up there don't get burned, but I'm not taking my chances with that.

Things I am likely to post about: Trans and other LGBTQIA2S+ rights, software development, vintage/retro gaming and computing, Olympic fencing and my cat.

A Cosmic Rose: NGC 2237 in Monoceros

The Rosette #Nebula (NGC 2237) in Monoceros, 5,000 light-years away, is a stellar nursery shaped by winds and radiation from its central young stars (NGC 2244). Visible with a small #telescope, the nebula spans about 50 light-years.

How a fox skull shape conquers the snow

Research explains how foxes hunting mice can plunge down into the snow at high speeds without injuring their poor little snouts.

In 1959, police were called to a segregated library in S. Carolina when 9 year old Ronald McNair refused to leave.
He later got a PhD in Physics, and died in 1986, one of the astronauts on the Challenger space shuttle.
That same library is now named after him.

For the first week I had to drive to work, I got lost on the way home every day. And every night I pulled out my map book to figure out where I had been.

Mysteries and thrillers didn't have to explain why the hero couldn't just do a search on that weirdo.
