What I appreciate about Mastodon is how it takes me out of affinity bubbles. What do I mean by this?
On Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, algorithms constantly feed me stuff from people it believes I want to see.
It ends up being the same type of people: nerdy white dudes and conventionally attractive women.
Because Mastodon has no similar algorithm, I'm not put in that box!
I see more LGBT+, POC, neurodiverse, disabled, etc. on here than in Big Social.
I'm thankful for this opportunity!
“What news do you bring me from over the mountains, my little friend?”
“There is a great storm coming, you should find shelter soon. Also, I saw hunters camped in the valley.”
“Anything else?”
“Your mother wants to know if you’re eating enough. She says she worries about you.”
As we move into a new year, I’d like to gently remind you…
You do not need to hold space in your life for people that hurt you.
You have every right to remove them from your life, without reason or explanation.
You do not have to keep people around who are toxic. Who make you uncomfortable. Who make you feel uneasy.
May #2023 be a place where we all embrace this more.
