Oh my, this is spectacularly to the point -

Since You Arrived

Back from #DrupalDevDays in Athens after a few days in Thessaloniki, and bus and train through the Balkans.

I love having DevDays and Camps in diverse places because by going there by land and ferry means ending up in places I wouldn't seek out otherwise.
I certainly wouldn't have ended up in a beer garden in Craiova with a 1 May barbeque otherwise.

@klausi @pcambra April's fool joke?
@vaurora The question is more: Why didn't it continue all the way to Hoogkarpsel, Bovenkarpsel-Grootebroek, Bovenkarpsel Flora and Enkhuizen?

@drupalassoc

Maybe organize an additional DrupalUS for those who don't want to leave the US.

But instead you chose to tell some people just not to come - and you phrased it like it would be their choice and their fault for being too sensitive, for "feeling unsafe"

@drupalassoc

Some of our community cannot be sure if their passport is accepted at the border, some of us would need to weigh a possible detention by ICE against the wish to attend a large and important conference.

Maybe there is indeed no hotel that fits your specific ideas, but you could also think out of the box. Maybe rent a conference center in Canada for a proper DrupalCon, and let participants book their own accommodation, instead of booking a whole hotel.

We are indeed disappointed -maybe less about the location itself- but about the fact that you actively choose a location that excludes part of our community. That you choose "business as usual", and topped it with some victim blaming. That you tell people not to come if they don't "feel safe" - as if there were no real problems when crossing the US border.

I am sure the @drupalassoc belated messaging explaining why they chose to go ahead with yet another DrupalCon NA in the USA after years of pleading not to will come to reassure many. Maybe some will take reassurance that they can go to other, non DrupalCon, events, instead?

Maybe it would have reassured Monique Brooks, a trans woman shot dead in Orlando, Florida. https://tdor.translivesmatter.info/reports/2024/07/19/monique-brooks-jade-monique-thomas_orlando-florida-usa_4a36cf8f

@drupalassoc I get that it is a tough situation, but let me tell you, there are a good number of good people who are feeling quite betrayed right now. Some trans folks in the community who’ve contributed a lot over the years are feeling *VERY* disillusioned and feeling like they’ve been treated like props that are now too inconvenient.

I’m hoping the entire DA board, and both the BDFL and CEO of the DA included, hear this feedback from folks and actually *sit* with it.
