A close family member had an accident, and now I have to worry about them catching covid in a trauma step-down unit where masks are *optional* for the healthcare workers. Imagine—no attempt to keep trauma patients safe from airborne pathogens, and that’s official CDC policy.

So when the same XBB.1.5 variant that tore thru a long term care facility in Cape Cod, infecting 19 staff & 74 residents (killing 5 of them) is dominant everywhere in the US, it's logical to conclude that this is a really f*cking bad time to be dropping mitigations in hospitals.
