@nixCraft You reminded me of some crap I left running on that port, so your grand scheme is already working great!
Meta found an even more down state this morning…
@b0rk not even close

@briankrebs I wrote a paper for an ethics class last spring about how the long term issue isn’t so much that these data brokers are collecting information about you — instead they operate in a market where there’s little accountability for accuracy.

Trust and security don’t exist in these companies like you would expect. They’re taking information without your consent, drawing inaccurate conclusions, and selling it as reliable without any benefit to the source (you).

Turned this week's rant about ongoing sloppy security at Experian into a blog post. Thanks to everyone here who helped with the research.

It's Still Easy for Anyone to Become You at Experian

In the summer of 2022, KrebsOnSecurity documented the plight of several readers who had their accounts at big-three consumer credit reporting bureau Experian hijacked after identity thieves simply re-registered the accounts using a different email address. Sixteen months later, Experian clearly has not addressed this gaping lack of security. I know that because my account at Experian was recently hijacked, and the only way I could recover access was by recreating the account.

Some people claim that they can use dark magics to force Linux to do what they want.

But that's just sudoscience

I *really* dislike the use of "hallucination" as a way to describe the behavior of LLMs. Not because it anthropomorphizes them, but because hallucinations are disorders of sensory perception. They don't make you spew out plausibly-sounding bullshit.

If you need a familiar term, "confabulation" is probably a better pick.

@nixCraft I have no faith in the security of Android software.

Need 240V for a test?

This'll work.

(Note: do not do this)

@malwaretech That's a regionalism to the American West/SW
