Those incapable of learning through empathy, shall learn from experience.
@muratgulsacan @philosophy šŸ˜„ That sure was not a dilemma one had in my day! I’d say, for your sake, just write - for ours, please share. Humbly, Hermit
@fzzlkfly @terrygrundy @philosophy Apologies in advance for tiresome questions, but:
a) What is your definition of ā€œrealā€ here? Can a simulation not be real?
b) Any simulation, is a simulation of something [else]. If you are in a simulation, what is that a simulation of?
@defrisselle @apodoxus @philosophy #Time is the distance between a law and its outcome
@goodlawproject is that a rhetorical question?
@baddadda @philosophy I’d have to first ask which ā€œphilosophyā€ and what sort of ā€œsenseā€ we’d be speaking of.

Hello sociologists!

@feministepistemology We do, yes. And my previous comment took that into account, but values -which is what is in question in your initial example- are not ā€œmitigating circumstancesā€. Is that your argument perhaps: that values are mitigating circumstances? If so, I’d disagree. Humbly, Hermit
@feministepistemology Think of it this way: although it is so that circumstances surrounding events presented for trial are taken into account and do impact on verdicts, most ppl prefer a system in which all are equal in eyes of the law. And, if the law should handle individuals in your example equally, why should society not do the same?
@feministepistemology @philosophy Would I say that both had the same chances of becoming ā€œdecentā€ā€¦? I think I’d say that we all have the ability to change - and to break free from whatever we’ve been taught.
