One day I went out to take some photos. It was a day when you wouldn’t get any other photographers out. You see, the weather was too bad, the light was crap - if you believe that, then you will never see the world as it really is. #BlackAndWhitePhotography #BandW #Ireland

First solid scientific evidence that Vikings brought animals to Britain

Archaeologists have found what they say is the first solid scientific evidence suggesting that Vikings crossed the North Sea to Britain with dogs and horses.

Castle Hill, Huddersfield. Iron Age Brigantine hillfort, Norman castle, medieval village and a Victorian tower.

It is home to numerous legends. The devil is said to have made a great leap here from Netherton Scar. A dragon guards its hoard in the hill and a golden cradle is reputed to be hidden in the ditches.

Camulodunum to the Romans. Wormcliffe in the early medieval period. Dark deeds were committed in the dungeon of the castle.

For #StandingStoneSunday, the Swinside Stone Circle, aka Sunkenkirk Circle, legend is that an attempted church build here failed - Devil kept pulling it down. Not sure of that but the cows were keeping clear (I’m in the center). From a ‘93 trip with a friend, wandering in pursuit of stone circles and Neolithic sites, this was pre-Internet & pre in-car GPS so a bit of a fun challenge for a couple of wayward Americans, in addition to remembering to keep on the left.

The kirin is a #yokai from #JapaneseFolklore that originated in China. It looks part deer & part horse with dragon scales. This beautiful, gentle creature harms nothing & is a strict vegetarian. It's seen as an omen of luck & great fortune. In case you're wondering why you haven't seen one lately it's because this benevolent creature only appears during periods of world peace. Also they're only seen in the lands of wise & nobel leaders.
