It is Galaxy Season! Here are two photos from this weekend. The first one is of M106 and its closest friends. The galaxy is more than 23 million light years from earth and has a very active super massive black hole in the center. The closeup on the wiki-page is spectacular. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messier_106
The second image is of Markarian's chain, eight galaxies that from earth looks like they form a band of galaxies. However there are more than 50 galaxies visible in the image. #astrophotography #astro
The Leo Triplet is a group of three galaxies located in the constellation Leo, about 35 million light-years away from Earth. These galaxies are known as M65, M66, and NGC 3628.
The three galaxies are interacting with each other through gravitational forces. This interaction has caused them to distort each other's shapes and trigger the formation of new stars in the process. #astrophotography
