Quoth the raven: u up?
Finally got around to doing my May update. Not the most optimistic one, but it is honest. Featuring Robinson Crusoe and Kurt Vonnegut.
You know, this podcast felt timely. C.S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength may not be the most accessible book, but he addresses the spirit of 'progress' and 'innovation' that I see used to justify AI. I won't say AI doesn't have uses, but the problems we need to solve don't need more tech, they need more compassion and generosity and kindness. It's just the same old story of silicon valley greed. If you decide to listen I hope you enjoy
This episode of John Oliver really hit home. Haven't watched him in a while but he seemed genuinely passionate and how could one not be? It's difficult to share/read the story about a teen who was guided to suicide by ChatGPT and not get emotional. This tech is literally killing us.
"How with this rage, shall beauty hold a plea?"

Google's proposed workaround for sideloading unverified apps requires 9 steps, a mandatory 24-hour waiting period, and is delivered through Google Play Services, not the Android OS. Google can modify or remove it at any time without user consent. It hasn't shipped in any beta.
Am I surprised? No. Would this be awful? Absolutely.

Very excited to share this episode of the podcast. This time we are discussing C.S. Lewis's Perelandra, one of the shortest, long books you'll ever read. Some tangents that are featured include Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster in space and The Little Mermaid:
We also have a new thumbnail done by the amazing Andrew Mosher, who we had as a guest once!
