Hallo Fediverse

After some months of trials, I have found Mastodon to be too time-consuming for me. I don't long for audience, and I still get all the information and new ideas I need from newspapers, public radio, some mailinglists and websites like Hacker News and The Guardian, and the smolnet.
I might pop up very rarely, but don't count on it. You will certainly find me elsewhere, if you're really inclined to contact me. 73

President Carter, now in his last days, home to be with his family as he passes, once personally saved Ottawa from a Nuclear Disaster, at risk, and cost, to his life, suffering from radiation poisoning all his life.

Canada had a Nuclear Accident in the 50s, asked the US for help, Lieutenant Jimmy Carter lead a team out of NY.

The future President Carter, had his team lower him into the reactor.

I had no idea. I have no idea why this isn't widely known

How a future U.S. president helped avert nuclear disaster near Canada's capital | CBC News

In 1952, an experimental nuclear reactor in Chalk River, Ont., about 180 kilometres northwest of Ottawa, partially melted down, becoming the world's first nuclear reactor incident. Disaster was averted, in part, with help from future U.S. president Jimmy Carter.

Meditation is a way for me to really take the time to be in the present moment and listen completely to the guy with the leaf blower.
I just noticed my dc(1) wrapper script (https://github.com/hb9kns/wrapdc) all of a sudden doesn't work any more on FreeBSD 13.1, while it worked on 12.4 and on Linux. That is/was my terminal calculator workhorse!
Wild guess: somebody "improved" it somewhere in an incompatible way, and almost nobody in this world ever really uses dc(1), they just need it for bc(1) to function?

I am truly sorry that your timeline isn’t filled up with John Mastodon posts. Meeting with the engineers now.

Physicist John Tyndall is often credited w discovering the greenhouse effect, which he wrote about in 1859.

But female scientist Eunice Foote published a paper - 3yrs earlier - demonstrating how atmospheric water vapor & CO2 affected solar heating. She theorized that heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere warm its #climate.

Tyndall was widely read. And Foote, being a woman, wasn't even permitted to present her own work.

Happy 200th birthday to Eunice Foote, hidden climate science pioneer

American Eunice Foote was an amateur scientist and women's rights pioneer from the mid-1800s whose experiments foreshadowed the discovery of Earth's greenhouse effect.

With only a few exceptions, male journalists have little understanding of what female journalists routinely face in doing their jobs. This story, from @taylorlorenz, is must-reading. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2023/02/14/women-journalists-global-violence/
These women journalists were doing their jobs. That made them targets.

"Radio Gaga" by Queen is one of my favourite radio celebration songs. 😍
Ah, and then I'm also reminded of the sweet radio and radio station scene in the "Lone Sails" FAR game. 🥹

Any other radio "memories"?
