Europe’s digital rights are on the chopping block.

We - 127 CSOs & trade unions - are sounding the alarm over the European Commission’s forthcoming #DigitalOmnibus proposals.

Behind “simplification” lies a deregulation agenda that threatens the EU's digital framework - GDPR, ePrivacy, AI Act, DSA & DMA - the very laws that keep our data safe, hold govts & corporations accountable, prevent AI from determining our life chances, & protect us from mass surveillance.

@1br0wn because the real product and market commodity for apple is still the users! That's why there's platform lock in, forced payment rules, and other shenanigans. Users spend money on software (apps) and Apple gets a cut. Part of it is enshittification as the profit graph has to keep going up. But the other part is a genuine belief that they are "owed" a tithe for letting others into the walled garden.
EDPS finds EU COM is not compliant with GDPR 🫠 An excellently documented decision that shows both the correct implementation of the law and the challenges of implementing it in today's Internet ecosystem.

Because privacy cannot become a privilege, we urge the EDPB, together with 28 other NGOs, to defend the fundamental right to data protection!

@jbaert this grossly misses the first two stated uses: "In one scenario, an attacker steals the secret
ECDSA signing keys of the counterparty in a voice call. In
another, the attacker detects what web page their counterparty
is loading." and that this is being funded by defense orgs. I doubt the main goal of research here is competitive CS.
