I'm #sewing a new #costume for #ChicagoTardis which is coming up next weekend. I'm thinking I'll leave out the pockets, maybe leave it unlined, and I think I have a chance of finishing. Wish me luck!
I'm calling this project complete. Tonight I cast the "mother of pearl" gem using resin and mica powder. That mold was easy. The one for the pewter was the most difficult I've ever made, and it took me maybe a dozen tries to get a decent cast.
The last couple of days on the #galadriel brooch have been frustrating. Based on my first pour, I thought this mold was good to go, but none of pours after that worked. They all had some flaw or bubbles. I cut more vents, widened the pour channel, for naught.
Eventually, I tried the other #pewter alloy that I keep on hand. I normally use R98, but I also have R92, which is harder, but supposedly doesn't pick up small details as well as R98 does. Well, it worked much better (bottom casting).
Non-plot spoiler for the last #Andor episode in the image. I was very excited to see this particular thing get a moment in the spotlight, since I replicated it for my wife's #cosplay a few years ago.

Over the past week or so I've been working on this reproduction of Galadriel's brooch from #thelordoftherings. I started with a 3D model I bought on Etsy (NynCrafts) and modified it a bit with epoxy putty. Then I made a two part mold with heat-resistant silicone, and made a casting in #pewter. I will be tweaking and refining over the next few days.

Hello, Mastodon! Here's my #introduction :
I am a digital designer by day, but for the purposes of this account I am into #cosplay , #propmaking , and general geek life. I also enjoy #trailrunning and #ultramarathons. Lately I've been getting into #pewter casting, mainly for costumes. Here are some photos of myself and my work:
