I work on a tool that makes provisioning cloud infrastructure and deploying code to the cloud easy, based on application templates.

I'm not at all an expert in Mastodon internals but it seems like we could probably create a template to stand up Mastodon servers and then provision/deploy with the Azure Developer CLI (via azd up)

Anyone game?

Hello, Mastodon

Important Mastodon Newbie Info 🐘:

There are no ads here,
and this is not a corporation.
This is a Federation

The person(s) taking care of everything needed for you to have an account here is likely doing it solely out of generosity for the community. This even costs THEM money. Not to mention the enormous cost in time!

Support your instance’s administration(s) every way you can. This is important 💚

HOW TO ❓

You can find who does this for you by looking up the About page for your server/instance.

You usually can find this page by adding “/about” after your instance’s name in a browser. Your instance name is what is after your handle name, after the second “@“ (for example, mine is: infosec.exchange/about).

👉 Help financially if you can: Many administrator(s) will have a page setup for donations. If not, you can ask them

👉 Offer your time to help if you can: Ask if they need support with moderation and such 💪

👉 Do not use Report as a joke. Only Report when necessary 😌

👉 BE KIND! Cheers them up! Say thanks! They are doing this for you 💚

To all mastodon admins:

Hi! I’m Evan Phoenix, the primary author of puma, the ruby webserver that powers mastodon!

Please reply or DM me if you need tuning help! I’ve got no officiation with the mastodon, just want to see you succeed!

(Quick Tip: set WEB_CONCURRENCY to core count * 1.5 and then tune MAX_THREADS. High thread values will see diminishing returns!)

Made an iOS Shortcut to let you follow someone from a different Mastodon instance without the copy/paste hoop-jumping.

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/e109c8e6b8c0420c902134049b13c064

Once added to your Shortcuts app, you can share a Profile (or webpage or text that contains a profile link or username) to this Shortcut to be taken to the Follow confirmation page without ever copying or pasting anything.

Let me know if you find it helpful or run into any issues.

I’m boldly going where I haven’t gone before, which is right here at this site. Apparently this is a “toot.” I would appreciate a follow!

We go into more detail in the post, but to clarify we are on Hachyderm under their corporate account program and we are very grateful to have been accepted. We want to be _the standard_ that other corporations aspire to reach.

We're excited to see what you can create!

I think it's glorious that there's now a Mastodon server operated by people who used to work for Twitter (macaw.social). I could have never imagined it when I started in 2016.

Does anyone know if there's a version of #mastodon written in #elixir? I see a couple of client libs, but no server implementations.

Based on what I've seen so far it looks like #elixir would be a natural fit for the use case, and you'd probably be able to get rid of the redis and sidekiq external dependencies.

I'd be interested in helping the effort if there is one, but don't have the time to port it myself.

I keep coming back to this terrific interview with @ncweaver which is the single best explainer of crypto I have seen anywhere (and really funny too) https://www.currentaffairs.org/2022/05/why-this-computer-scientist-says-all-cryptocurrency-should-die-in-a-fire
Why This Computer Scientist Says All Cryptocurrency Should “Die in a Fire” ❧ Current Affairs

UC-Berkeley’s Nicholas Weaver has been studying cryptocurrency for years. He thinks it’s a terrible idea that will end in disaster.
