I was with my first company for a year before I bit the recruiters bait and doubled my salary with a new position. Not sure what the market is like now but that was ~3 years ago now.
@gristle Don't be afraid of QA roles. They can be an easy in to the industry. Worked for me transitioning from teaching into software!

Any suggestions? Coming from a career in IT, currently between jobs, looking to lock down my first junior role. I'm coming out of a private mentorship. Is the market as terrible as my last 2 months of sending my resume into a black hole makes it seem?
silentdanniOne of the things I hate the most is when people say, “You gotta be X hours in and then it is really great!” If you have to wait for a game to get good then, in my opinion, it is not a very good game. I want to have fun right from the beginning.
Dude same with shows. I’m sorry but if I have to watch a whole season before it gets good I’m not watching. I respect my time, they should too.

I was hanging a ceiling fan in this room when I discovered that the mounting screw holes in the electrical box are stripped. My dad has suggested using JB Weld putty, letting it cure, drilling it out with a small bit and then using wood screws. First time homeowner and have neither the confidence nor the expertise to completely replace the box. Is my dad’s route the best course of action or is it a waste of time and/or dangerous to go that route?

The webapp is passable, and quality content isn't terribly lacking. Seems to get better every day, too.
RawwwbDitched Twitter as soon as Elon took over. Mastodon has been a decent replacement. I wish had more news and devs in my feed, but maybe that will come with time.
Thinking about ditching Reddit now. That one has been hard to drop. It'll probably get a lot easier in a week once RIF stops working on my phone.
What to do instead? For now I'm picking up reading again. It has been way too long since I read books for fun.
