I'm still not sure what to post here. I feel so alienated from social media, "content" creation, and the strange parasocial relationships that form over the internet, that anything that comes to mind feels insincere/cringe/just a symptom of the same underlying issues. Tumblr was nice in that it was so anti-influencer, pro-niche communities, but the recent unexpected firing of one of their more outspoken engineers makes me so annoyed.

My greatest advice to those concerned: Start archiving. If you come across something you believe is valuable: make a copy.

If you follow a guide on how to install and configure software and you found it helpful: make a copy.

If you come across a video you really enjoy and find yourself coming back to again and again: make a copy.

If it means anything to you: make a copy, or you'll wish you did.

@ocdtrekkie that's what I've been wondering about, actually. If a server shuts down, doesn't that mean that all of my user data goes down too? Unless copies of it are shared with other instances? (I'm a programmer but very n00b when it comes to web dev and decentralized social media architecture)

Ad blockers are also cybersecurity. Say it with me.

They reduce malvertising, watering hole attacks, and general malicious script execution. It’s not all about you, ad firms.

(And yeah, it's tragic. I actually come from tumblr because twitter sucked so much I had to go there, and then they started introducing questionable features like link tracking and sketchy, possibly geo sharing livestreams)
