From personal experience (albeit 20 years ago) I know that it is important to test such systems in full, with actual grid detachment and reattachment if at all possible, in regular intervals.
We did at the time do that every week for two full hours, but our system was small (2000 kW, 2500 HP generators).
It is also important to understand where to get more fuel, and how, in the case of a wider and longer power outage, this is available and what the priorities for giving it away are.
A lot of system operators in Spain are now probably taking a long and close look at their systems, and will improve DR plans.
People in other, unaffected parts of Europe should do the same – and run actual full desync and resync tests.
It's not a test until you actually did it. And it's not process, but a project, unless it is becoming boring. And Infra should be like that – boring.

I expected it to be one as I was scheduled to do a presentation with the "Autoritat Catalana de Protecció de Dades" on the risk of S3 buckets and other data leaks. For me it was a special presentation because the first time in my life I would do a presentation in Spanish. Put a lot of preparation into it but was nervous anyway. But it went fine and we wrapped it up at about 12:00 local time.
As we (Directora Meritxell Borràs i Solé and me) were debriefing, suddenly the lights went out. I expected a small localized hiccup, so we didn't think much about it and started our journey to the scheduled lunch. A taxi was waiting for us.
