Have you heard about the "Stop Killing Games" petition? It is an EU movement fighting against anti-consumer practices in video games. We need signatures from European citizens and shares from everyone else. It takes just a few seconds to help make the world a better place. Thank you so much!

@jorge I don't know how to interpret this lol

Sorry about the brief outage some of you might have experienced.

We've upgraded to Mastodon 4.4.0 this morning and it appears that one of our themes didn't play well and broke all of the assets (caching kept things working for a while, but eventually refreshed and caused things to stop working).

An update of the theme and recompiling the assets got things fixed though so we're all stable now. 🤓

Turns out running large scale events is hard, who would have thought?
🤣

Game design friends, is there a widely accepted term similar to “progressive disclosure” in UX but for introducing mechanics, abilities, etc.? E.g. in a platformer where you can jump, push blocks, wall jump, etc. the level design basically forces you to learn the abilities as you go, “just in time” to complete the new challenges instead of all up front.

Maybe progressive disclosure isn't a perfect UX equivalent, either—it might be more like “guided discovery” or something.

@Wuzzy Its really hard for me to take the Spyware Watchdog site seriously when the articles you linked are at least several years out of date.

I'm not saying things have changed and they are better, but Brave is using its own search engine by default now, not Google. Looking at the Firefox article on the site, it was last tested with version 58 from 2018, and Vivaldi was testing on version 5.2.2623.48, from 2022.
