A farmer who owned 67 sheep asked me to round them up.
I said: Sure. 70.

Over on BlueSky, authors are sharing their #unbound horror stories. It’s awful. So much worse than I imagined. It’s Alan Dean Foster vs Disney all over again.
Unbound went into liquidation and immediately a new company, Boundless, popped up. They now own all of Unbound’s assets … and none of its debts.
There are so many authors owed tens of thousands of pounds each. Many of them have no other source of income and this represents a year’s worth of royalties.

Tired of "free" QR code generators that are full of ads and trackers, that share your data, and that want to sell you something? Me too. Here's my act of resistance: I made a one-page site that works entirely in your browser to generate a simple QR code. And that's all it does. You can download the HTML page and run it locally, even. Read the source; nothing up my sleeves. Just a QR code.
My offer to you -- I will continue to pay for the domain name and web hosting for it, myself. If you find it valuable, you can pay it back by creating your own useful thing for the world and releasing it for free. Let's take back the friendly web, one vexingly-monetized utility at a time!
“In the Netherlands, every citizen is allowed to clear and plant a strip of paving slabs up to 50 centimeters away from the house wall without asking the authorities. ‘We want as many people as possible to take responsibility for making cities greener and therefore more resilient to the climate crisis,’ explains Landegent as he rolls up a blue fiber optic cable that was buried in the sand bed under the tiles. Later, he says, they’ll lay the cable back in the bed. Doesn’t the network operator have to agree to this? Or send a fitter to supervise? Or doesn’t the homeowner at least have to be informed? Landegent smiles and shakes his head. Dutch people—who are accustomed to taking matters into their own hands—would never ask such questions, he seems to think.”
