@benoit I'm aware both are used, but with TL'DR leaving out the N, I always wonder why someone would leave readers puzzled over the meaning of "To Long, Did Read". I still care enough about readability to leave the N in.
@benoit That's almost longer than the article itself. :)
The TL'DNR says it pretty much already.

Some thoughts on AI.

TL’DNR: I see warning signs everywhere around the topic. IMHO, we need more honest discussion of AI, evaluation of pros and cons. For most areas, we should not yet invest our resources into GPUs, model training and inference.

Thoughts on AI

TL’DNR: I see warning signs everywhere around the topic. We need more honest discussion of AI, evaluation of pros and cons. For most areas, we should not yet invest our resources into GPUs, model training and inference.\nThese opinions and views are my own.\nResources AI is consuming resources, mostly\nfor production of the hardware for model training and inference, mostly GPUs for model training: for most LLMs, this is using up so much energy that just Google, Meta, IBM etc. can afford this for model inference, so “providing the AI infused service”, this uses up energy again Compared to the resources consumed in these areas, our brains are very efficient. Why not researching the technology more, and roll it out when we are sure the resources are taken into good use? We already run short on resources, and are fighting the climate crisis.\n

Japan, Tech and Open Source
@HeNeArXn Indeed, that's a better fit! Thanks!
@codewiz Sounds like you did not have the right floppies before?
I kind of was in the same situation, Amiga 1000 without floppies and even keyboard. Also no greaseweazle.
I used a serial cable to get floppy images (firmware, workbench) to an Amiga 500, write the floppies there, and then boot the Amiga 1000.

Yay, I passed the exam for the German A-class #HAMradio license. With that, I can thanks to HAREC apply for a high license also in Japan.

The naming of the licenses is funny:
In Germany, the highest license has the modest name A-license, with A meaning "Allgemein", so in English "universal".
In America, the highest license is "extra", you almost see glitter raining down while spelling that out. 🙂

I can recommend the Flugwerft Oberschleißheim near Munich.

My second (and final) day at this years Open Source Summit Japan is over. The Steam Deck running RHEL 10.1 was driving the booth monitor, my notes on the setup are here:
