e
basta

🗞️ We have a new blog up on the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre on why the results of our bank benchmark show that European due diligence legislation must cover financial services.

Written by my colleague Giulia Barbos and published as part of BHRRC's "Towards Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence" blog series #CSDDD #BizHumanRights

In the balance: Why European due diligence legislation must cover financial services - Business & Human Rights Resource Centre

There is one general rule for human relationships that I love to follow and I think it could make your life better too.

If a person believes the solution to the complexe problems du jour is **blockchain** run, baby, run as fast as you can. Burn all communications, move somewhere far away and never talk to them again.

Yesterday the Council of the #EuropeanUnion adopted its general approach on the #csddd proposal.

Together with two excellent colleagues (who are not on Mastodon 😫) we wrote about it for EU Observer.

How Berlin and Paris sold-out the EU corporate due diligence law

Germany even tried to mobilise support to turn the due diligence process, designed to prevent human rights violations, into a shield to protect companies from being taken to court. Thankfully this did not gain much traction.

Dom Vicent Fereir is the auxiliary bishop of Belo Horizonte, in Brazil.

When in 2019 the #Brumadinho dam disaster killed more than 270 people and changed the lives of local communities forever, Dom Vicente worked tirelessly to help communities and to bring #justice.

No his life is being threatened by those ready to do anything to ensure profit over life.

Please retoot and share in #solidarity w/ him and the people in #Brumadinho.

So far my favourite #bizhumanrights takes by Twitter blue, "verified" brand accounts. That entirely predictable debacle sure will reassure advertisers 😂

Corporate interests will control the discourse every chance they get. Kudos to @[email protected] for calling this out at #COP27 #bizhumanrights

We found that over 600 of the delegates admitted to #COP27 are fossil fuel lobbyists.

Why are they still being granted access to decision-makers during the week they’ll decide how to fight the #ClimateCrisis?

Curious to know how many people here were at, or followed, the #UN #BindingTreaty negotiations, your take on the last session and thoughts on future of process.

Dear #BHR experts, can you point to “success stories” of human rights and environmental #duediligence in situation/areas of #conflict , possibly showing how mhredd can contribute to resilience in value chains when conflicts erupt?
Thanks☺️
