e
basta

🗞️ We have a new blog up on the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre on why the results of our bank benchmark show that European due diligence legislation must cover financial services.

Written by my colleague Giulia Barbos and published as part of BHRRC's "Towards Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence" blog series #CSDDD #BizHumanRights

@grabosch i agree! Btw I have nothing against blockchain itself, it can be a useful tech. But some people and orgs see it as the magical solution to such a varied range of problems that it becomes ridiculous.

Any kind of one-shot, techno-fix to complex problems should raise suspicion in my opinion.

@grabosch I was not aware of your thread - if you are so interested in the origin of my joke, I am posting the triggering fact here 😉 I hope you find it as funny as I do 🫢
@grabosch no, sir. It was inspired by, and is, a running joke in a group chat - I hadn’t seen your toot.
@grabosch sorry what?
@NadiaBernaz it's been on the verge of disrupting all fields imaginable, from mining in Eastern DRC to forest conservation, for about 10 years 🙄
@asaxena87 the real golden rule !

There is one general rule for human relationships that I love to follow and I think it could make your life better too.

If a person believes the solution to the complexe problems du jour is **blockchain** run, baby, run as fast as you can. Burn all communications, move somewhere far away and never talk to them again.

Yesterday the Council of the #EuropeanUnion adopted its general approach on the #csddd proposal.

Together with two excellent colleagues (who are not on Mastodon 😫) we wrote about it for EU Observer.

How Berlin and Paris sold-out the EU corporate due diligence law

Germany even tried to mobilise support to turn the due diligence process, designed to prevent human rights violations, into a shield to protect companies from being taken to court. Thankfully this did not gain much traction.
