"Animated Bokeh" has been on my whiteboard for a long time, and this is the result.
I thought it would just be for cheesy novelty effects, but it also does lightfield manipulation that was cooler than I expected.

One of the things that #EmberJS & it's ecosystem does (mostly) correctly wrt/ #SemanticVersioning is:
✅ Major versions are for breaking changes.
❌ Major versions are for adding fancy new features.
It looks weird and less shiny at first, but let me reassure you: Once you start maintaining any slightly more complicated codebase, this is an absolute blessing.
For those wondering why I'm making such a fuss about #Solstice, here's an excerpt from Terry Pratchett's #Hogfather. Susan, a mortal who is Death's granddaughter, has just saved the Hogfather (a Santa/Father Christmas type figure) from a messy death at the hands of those who would prefer a more clockwork universe.
I WILL GIVE YOU A LIFT BACK, said Death, after a while.
"Thank you. Now... tell me..."
WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF YOU HADN'T SAVED HIM?
"Yes! The sun would have risen just the same, yes?"
NO.
"Oh, come on. You can't expect me to believe that. It's an astronomical fact."
THE SUN WOULD NOT HAVE RISEN.
...
"Really? Then what would have happened, pray?"
A MERE BALL OF FLAMING GAS WOULD HAVE ILLUMINATED THE WORLD.
They walked in silence for a moment.
"Ah," said Susan dully. "Trickery with words. I would have thought you'd have been more literal-minded than that. "
I AM NOTHING IF NOT LITERAL-MINDED. TRICKERY WITH WORDS IS WHERE *HUMANS* LIVE.
"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... *fantasies* to make life bearable. "
REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.
"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little --"
YES. AS PRACTICE YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.
"So we can believe the big ones?"
YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

Happy #Hogswatch to all who celebrate.
This past week the Australian Ruby community lost one of the most wonderful humans, and I've lost a very dear friend. Caz had the biggest heart, caring for both those around her and in the world more broadly.
It's heartbreaking and devastating, and I'm still a bit in denial - hoping that reality will re-assert itself, that I can go give her a big hug. 😭
Sending love and hugs to all who need them. 💔

I'm reminded of the time folks asked for a serious Code of Conduct for Ruby, and were rebuffed by Ruby Core, because it was too 'political’.
I am very much over Matz's niceness being used as the core basis of our community's values, and the same goes for the hero worship applied to him as a person. Being nice is not even the bare minimum of decent behaviour, let alone leadership. Can we expect a bit more please?

@[email protected] I am very sad (though regrettably unsurprised) to see Matz endorsing and de factor legitimizing the lie that Ruby Central, not the maintainers, have been the stewards all this time. I wonder if he would be okay with describing the companies who sponsor Ruby work as the true stewards of Ruby, and be fine with them forcibly wresting ownership of the repos from him and the Ruby core team. He would recognize such actions as indefensible. But co-signing treating other maintainers that way apparently counts as "nice".
"An essential part of being able to say ‘I told you so’ is in fact having told you so" is perhaps the best opening sentence of an article I've ever read.

An essential part of being able to say ‘I told you so’ is in fact having told you so. Here goes. In April 2023, I wrote an article titled AI: Guaranteed to disrupt our economies. In this piece I also announced I was going to make a fool of myself by making some AI predictions. I have singularly failed to do so. In retrospect this was all spot on, except for perhaps missing the sheer magnitude of the madness that was about to ensue.
