Only violates robots.txt for investigative purposes. Fuck gen AI. All-caps yells about accessibility. Lives in Seattle. Tries everything in Python first. Makes web things.

There seems to be a timid uptick in new accounts on the Fedi, for reasons

Please, don't start acting OG HOA on them. They'll post intro if they feel like, they'll add alt text if they understand why. They'll stay if Masto feels fun, not because you say "we're a no-shoes house" or some shit...

And if it is minorities sharing their lived experience, please shut the fuck up and resist the urge to chime in, explain or police tones...

thank you (a witness of the Great Replying of Autumn 2022)

wordpress is another example of a man having too much power over a brand that represents an entire community and not one person

i feel bad for everyone that has given their time and life to this project to be caught up in the middle of this drama

New from 404 Media: Telegram confirms it has provided U.S. user data to the authorities. I've been checking the Telegram transparency bot everyday for weeks. Today it is outputting data. More than a dozen requests impacting 100+ users. Phone/IPs https://www.404media.co/telegram-confirms-it-gave-u-s-user-data-to-the-cops/

Now in addition to getting spam on WhatsApp itself I've started getting spam SMS with links to WhatsApp groups. Not a fan.

Python docs requirements are actually quite simple to follow:

  • Module descriptors (doc-string) should be added to all __init__.py files describing the purpose and content of the module at a high level.
  • File descriptors (doc-string) should be added to every .py file, describing the purpose and content of the file.
  • Class descriptors (doc-string) should be added to every class, describing the purpose and content of the class
  • Function descriptors (doc-string) should be added to every function explaining what arguments it takes, what it does, and what it returns.
  • (Notice a pattern?)

If you add this alongside type-hinting, you will always end up with a codebase thats simpler to work with, quicker to onboard new people to and has less bugs.

Any developer with any level of experience can do this, and all stakeholders who read and depend on the codebase benefits from it.

Ok, here's the deal on the "YubiKey cloning attack" stuff:

Yes, a way to recover private keys from #YubiKey 5 has been found by researchers.

    But the attack *requires*:

πŸ‘‰ *physically opening the YubiKey enclosure*

πŸ‘‰ physical access to the YubiKey *while it is authenticating*

    πŸ‘‰ non-trivial electronics lab equipment

    I cannot stress this enough:

✨ In basically every possible scenario you are safer using a YubiKey or a similar device, than not using one. ✨

If you go down that path and really must reimplement "link behavior" in JavaScript, here's a list of keyboard interactions you should support with your custom "JS link".

Native links support a ton of keyboard interactions:

    - navigating to the target URL
    - opening tabs or windows in fore or background
    - downloading the target HTML. πŸ˜…

Maybe the native link is a better choice!

Thanks to @eric for this research!

I’m frustrated by the way that 404 Media story that’s going around is being talked about. I would just really like people to remember that β€œmarketing agency says X in a pitch deckβ€œ has a very little relationship to whether or not X is actually true.
