What happens when you're on a long distance train and it gets cancelled due to an engine failure? Because that's what has actually happened here and we haven't a clue what that means in terms of us eventually getting home to Denver.

🚂 Train station in Roseville, Calif. on July 21, 2025.
What year do you think it was built?
I was shocked to hear it was built in 1994! Inside is a collection of murals documenting the rail history of Roseville, which is home to the largest rail yard in California.
It's also the hub for railfans in the area who help maintain the train cameras in the area (link in comments).
The California Zephyr stopped in Roseville for about 30 minutes, a rare occurrence, allowing us to explore the charming station that serves Amtrak and Greyhound customers.
Part 3: Truckee & Tahoe
After hours on the train, a quick hike led to huge views. We swam, wandered, and soaked in the calm. The kind of stop that makes you want to return in another season.

I have seen five fireworks shows while crossing Utah on the train tonight. also apparently red white and blue Christmas lights are a thing on 4th of July. also every little town has a beautiful clean train platform, looks like great public transit.
I’m both glad that I can't see their butts and glad that the tradition which gives this part of the river the Moon River nickname hasn't gone away in the ~25 years since I last took this trip.
