Work in progress from the weekend.

The graph shows the carbon forecast being used to charge the house battery in the lowest carbon periods overnight. Dark grey off-peak; light grey is when the battery was commanded to charge. CO2 savings are around 90% compared to the forecast peak at 17:00.

The dashboard is intended to quickly signal whether the battery will last until off-peak, and the effect of running various kitchen appliances.

Spare a thought for the poor software engineers who have to deal with this shit twice a year.

I love it when a plan comes together.

10kWh battery storage added to the system - another 8kWh going in next week. I've now attempted to show battery charge/discharge in my Sankey Chart view but I'm not sure the 45kWh "Home" figure in the centre represents anything meaningful.

The five blue spikes on the left of the upper chart represent the battery being charged, followed by Intelligent Octopus charging the car over four bursts from 1:30am to 6:30am. We've pulled almost nothing from the grid since then.

“But how did you play games with just the keyboard?”

Take your kids to The Centre For Computing History in #Cambridge this weekend so they can understand why Generation X has chronic RSI.

I have also added gas consumption to the Sankey Chart, which really does show in a way that the default #homeassistant energy chart doesn't, how much consumption is due to heating.

Current work in progress - trying to visualise carbon footprint, real-time.

Energy is above the x-axis, carbon footprint is below. Blue is electricity consumption, red is gas, yellow is solar generation. These are overlayed not stacked.

Below the x-axis, is a stacked breakdown of carbon footprint. Brown is grid using the real-time CO2 intensity signal, light grey is from burning gas. The black section shows "shadow" carbon which has been mitigated by solar generation.

I've had a few questions about how the Sankey chart works on my customised #homeassistant energy dashboard - write-up is here:

Oof, I was hoping that today would be the first 10kWh-generating day but not quite.

Feel sad that we gave away 40% of what we generated though.

New home dashboard view - our Kindle Fire 10" in the kitchen has gained an additional #homeassistant #dashboard view, to cover power consumption and solar production.

Still no batteries; will change this when slash if they arrive.

Features elements from the built-in HA energy dashboard; some solar forecast information and some semi-realtime information pulled from the inverter, mainly to highlight if we're feeding in to the grid.
