Yesterday I gave a (remote) talk to a class of CS students on the topic of doing DataViz for NGOs.
Preparing the talk made me reflect a lot. NGOs are more important than ever but threats and problems (funds, autocracies, legal etc) are also increasing (even in Germany).

I realised that I need to talk about all of this more often.

So if you / your class / colloquium / conference would like to get a tour d'horizon, maybe reach out (here, on Bluesky or via https://fubits.dev/about).

🤚 Long time no see, but it’s been a work-intense year + JS devs are still sticking to X…

Personal news: I decided to quit my current employment towards end of November and will return to fulltime freelancing.

Hence, I started to update my portfolio website again, and will be blogging (about web dev, self-hosting, and tech management) somewhen later this year.

My current stack: Svelte 5 / SvelteKit, Astro, Supabase, Postgres, and Coolify.

🔥 Data folks: earlier this month @okfn launched the v1 beta of their brand new Open Data Editor (#FOSS) and you absolutely should check it out. In my own words, it's like a standalone / desktop + no-code data + markdown + notebook editor that covers a whole range of workflows and use cases. And please be so kind to star their repo on GitHub: https://github.com/okfn/opendataeditor

TIL: There’s a Gephi alternative for network analysis that’s been built with C++ (and Qt 6): https://graphia.app/

Does this count as pair-programming?
Speaking of @astro:
I just submitted a talk proposal for #SvelteSummit Fall 2023, and I'd like to share my best practices and good patterns for using #Astro + #Svelte in production.
CfP closes on Sunday, and I bet y'all have great stuff to talk about. So don't hesitate!

Heads up, Netlify users: asset optimization will be deprecated in a week.
You definitely want to re-watch the Stackblitz keynote. WebAssembly (incl. native support for Python) is coming to WebContainers. Crazy new spectrum of possibilities.
