I'd just like to remind Americans that France is currently on its Fifth Republic since 1789 (with three Empires—with monarchs—interleaved until 1870).

The USA appears to be in the dying days of its Second Republic (time out in 1860-65) but something better will emerge eventually, if we avoid planetary ecosystem collapse in the meantime.

This, too, shall pass.

When will be there be an ecological approach to education that shows kids the wonder of the planet that houses us and damage done by producing acids and super greenhouse gases that are routinely used in the manufacture of the computers and tablets that some of these schools boast of having at their disposal. The whole thing makes me despair. 😢

The silence of the world is more frightening than the sound of the bombs.

what if sisyphus got a coin every time he rolled the boulder up the hill and then he could spend his coins in the shop to level up his pushing ability but each time he leveled up the boulder also got heavier so the challenge remains the same despite feeling like progression has been made. and what if he was able to unlock sisyphus minions that could roll the boulder up the hill while he was away. also every time he starts a new roll an ad plays. and also he can choose to watch an ad every time he drops the boulder to receive 2x coins for that round. and also you can buy fun skins for the boulder through microtransactions

The Government of Japan has made an ad about its prosecution of Captain Paul Watson, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative 🇯🇵🐋

It turns out the problem with generative AI isn't only fake output but fake reductions in carbon emissions

"And, for an instant, she stared directly into those soft blue eyes and knew, with an instinctive mammalian certainty, that the exceedingly rich were no longer even remotely human."

The look on our six yr old child's face as I explain that we can't go the beach and get in sea because of sewage discharges and water pollution.

Microbial rare earth and other metal recycling. Love it. This feels like a Solarpunk future to me:

Cults are weird.
Capitalism is a cult.

It does things like felling thousands of carbon storing and oxygen creating lifeforms to…

create emissions by building a factory that makes cars that are supposed to ‘cut emissions’ but will be scrapped in less time than it took the things it felled to grow to maturity, and telling itself this is rational
