Serious things: law, technology, bikes, transit, sustainability.
Silly things: humor, movies, books, music, sci-fi, running, backpacking, kayaking, the complete works of Jane Austen, and cat memes.
Apologies if my silly is your serious, or vice versa.

I have really enjoyed Return to Monkey Island. The new art style doesn't work for me at all, but it still conveys the whimsy and humor that make the series special. The puzzles and jokes are top-notch, and I'm so glad Ron Gilbert brought us another chapter of silly adventure.

Playing Pirate: Looking back on the 'Monkey Island' series after its 'Return'

'Return to Monkey Island' revived a beloved series that began in 1990. Critics have liked the new game, but fans are split on its art style and its controversial ending.

Forget the US: Elon Musk’s real Twitter troubles come from abroad

Hello, and welcome to Protocol Policy! Today I’m listening to spooky music and thinking about how running a giant international company may actually require some sacrifices and compromises for Musk. Plus, questions are swirling about whether Russia hacked Liz Truss’ phone, and Lyft is both the savio...

The 2020s are *the* deciding decade for climate and what’s now coming is a ramp up of already tested climate policies globally.

If we keep up and even strengthen momentum now we will have a good chance of enabling a life for humanity in dignity on a healthy planet.

This @[email protected] feature gained a lot of attention. It’s principal assessment is spot on: We are making progress towards climate action, but will likely fail 1.5C. I believe it also offers a good account of the messy nature of international politics 🧵https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/10/26/magazine/climate-change-warming-world.html
Beyond Catastrophe: A New Climate Reality Is Coming Into View

There's plenty of bad news. But thanks to real progress, we're headed toward a less apocalyptic future.

Just saw a Twitter poll at over 150k votes suggesting that 58% of men and 40% of women wouldn’t cancel air travel if they tested positive for #SARSCoV2 but had only ‘mild’ #Covid19 symptoms at the time!

😰

In more ways than one, #CovidIsAirborne!

Happy Halloween, and to my friends here in the U.S., remember that today is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians.

If you have the ability to change how your city, town, or neighborhood protect kids today and every day, make your voice heard! 🎃 🚗 🚸

@sanae Well, I love to see it, and I'm jealous of your commute! Mine involves 5- and 7-lane stroads that have (at best) painted bicycle gutters, and buses that come every 30 minutes. I make it work, but we have a lot of room for improvement. Thanks for the extra info and the correction on on the vehicle!
@thatgeoguy Good points, and I'm glad CDOT is doing good work! Let me just say that Tennessee DOT is not exactly living up to its potential. The state legislature actually passed legislation interfering with regional transit, and TDOT spends a tiny fraction of its annual budget on transit or other forms of transportation. I'm very glad, though, that other states are doing better.
“Fellow villainous mega-billionaire space tourist Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post for a mere $250m, less than 1% of what Musk just paid for a cacophonous global collection of weird, hollering self-promotion.” Useful look at where we are. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/oct/28/elon-musk-twitter-disaster
Elon Musk’s Twitter is going to be a disaster

Musk probably bought Twitter for the same reason billionaires throughout history have become press barons: to try to control the conversation

I have virtually no confidence in my state's DoT to consider greenhouse emissions, they are suck in 1960s era planning mindsets. But I'm glad other states are incorporating them.

The Culture Clash at State DOTs Over Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Whether state departments of transportation support or oppose a new rule aimed at reining in carbon emissions in transportation reflects an urban-rural, red-blue divide.
