I've been interested in depictions of homosexuality in older manga, especially from the 70s-80s era, and surprisingly it's been 4 for 4 in all titles I've checked out so far. They might be dated in some aspects but in others they seem to lack the reactionary aspects of some more modern works, think the 90s and 00s.
I also felt like the critique was a bit shallow and flat, like it comes in with pre-conceived expectations of what a good story should be and tries to slot the work into that framing instead of trying to meet the story where it's at and then judging whether it accomplishes its objectives or not. But on the other hand that can be simply a matter of me not agreeing with the verdict, it's a difference of ratings. And blogging is kinda dead right now so I can't really be picky when it comes to reviewers, I guess.
I followed this manga review blog cuz I'm interested in recommendations but I'm surprised a review on it said the nudity scenes in Bokurano are supposed to be sexy... Like. Are they? The artist's style is just deeply uncanny, no offense but I'm not sure he can make characters look sexy even if he tried which is why he wisely sticks to drawing mechs and airplanes instead.

I might start reading my first web novel. It's isekai technically which is a genre I really don't like, plus it's the subset of isekai that revolves around the protagonist knowing genre tropes in advance which I honestly oppose on a basic level but this one has a premise that doesn't look that bad (Shangri La Frontier)
In fact I'm already doing this because while reading this pro-status quo drivel I'm actively thinking about Shima yaoi instead
