Elon Musk has already started plans to launch a million satellites.

Yes. A MILLION.

This is a colossally bad idea, and it's not too late to make your voice heard. I explain everything:

Rampant growth of satellite mega constellations could ruin the night sky

Satellites are wonders of modern technology that have improved all of our lives. But having more than a million of them in orbit could destroy our view of the heavens and seriously damage our planet

So Duo (the multifactor authentication service that #infosec loves) has integrated with Persona (the privacy destroying, Peter Thiel backed, AI-linked, facial scanning and mapping "identity verification" software)

You know the recent Discord snafu that received such massive pushback and caused so many people to leave Discord that they've dropped their identity verification?

Yeah, that Persona.

Duo integrates it into Duo Premier, Duo Advantage, and even Duo Essentials...

...which means many working class folks will have no option but to be enrolled into and use Persona...

...or be fired.

German satirical artist Jacques Tilly has been sued in Russia by Vladimir Putin for defaming the Russian state by making carnival sculptures in Germany — outside Putin's dystopian jurisdiction — so it would be a real shame, if that made us share his artworks and embarrass Putin even further.

My family has donated $200,000 to the Open Source Endowment which launches today. Open source underpins critical infrastructure globally, and we need to pursue as many ways to sustainably fund it as possible; a single funding model doesn't cover all cases. https://endowment.dev

The Open Source Endowment provides truly sustainable funding for critical open source software through a community-driven endowment model.

A new #Science review of 34,000 world-class performers shows a surprising pattern: most top scientists, athletes, musicians, and chess players were not child prodigies. About 90% of elite adults were different people than the early “stars.”

Future champions often developed slower, explored multiple disciplines, and avoided early specialization. Early over-training may help kids win, but it rarely creates world leaders. 🤔

About usage of #AI (or, more precisely, #LLMs ) in #development , I read:

> "When you boil down everything [AI companies] say and strip it right back, what they make are tools to either fire people or demand more work without hiring anyone new to help."

(see https://yarnspinner.dev/blog/why-we-dont-use-ai/)

This reason *alone* should make us refuse to use them (not counting social, human, ethical, moral, economic, environmental impacts)…

Why We Don't Use AI | Yarn Spinner

We get asked about AI a lot. Whether we’re going to add it to Yarn Spinner, whether we use it ourselves, what we think about it. Fair questions. Time to write it all down. Yarn Spinner doesn’t use the technology that’s currently being called AI. We don’t have generative AI features in the product, and we don’t use code generation tools to build it, and we don’t accept contributions we know contain generated material. Let’s talk about why.

Dear Canadians:

Please, please, from the bottom of my heart, please vote in today's election. Take it from a USian. Polls can get it *very* wrong, high turnout does *not* mean your side is winning. You can lose an election you thought you had in the bag. Your vote is more needed than you know.

The above plea goes triple for anyone who may happen to be in Ontario's Carleton riding. ( https://globalnews.ca/news/11149672/poilievre-rallies-carleton-reports-could-lose-seat/ )

I am not allowed to vote. I hope in the next election, I will be able to.

Poilievre schedules rally in Carleton amid reports he could lose his seat

The Conservative leader has represented the rural Ottawa riding since 2004, but faces a determined push by Liberals to unseat him amid slumping polls.

This passage from Michelle Obama:

"I hope you'll forgive me if I'm a little frustrated that some of us are choosing to ignore #Trump's gross incompetence while asking Kamala to dazzle us at every turn. I hope that you'll forgive me if I'm a little angry that we are indif to his erratic behavior. His obvious mental decline. His history as a convicted felon . All of this while we pick apart Kamala's answers from interviews that he doesn't even have the courage to do, y'all."

A judge has forced Elon Musk to disclose who helped him buy Twitter.

And to no one's surprise: Two rich Russians from Putin's inner circle were part of the deal. Their names are Petr Aven and Vadim Moshkovich, and allegedly they are related to companies on the list.

And clearly, EU parliamentarian Guy Verhofstadt is not having it.

Obviously, indirect Russian relations in itself is not proof of Russian influence.

I will do some more digging.

Elon Musk was just forced to reveal who really owns X. Here’s the list

Organizations linked to Bill Ackman, Larry Ellison, and Sean Combs, a.k.a. Diddy or Puff Daddy, were mentioned in the filing.
